North Carolina, 2013
[August 11-20, 2013] An All-Class Reunion in Charleston, WV prompted this loop; I figured that since I was out, anyway, I may as well take a road trip. This one was mostly a Civil War loop that covered WV, VA (no photos), NC, SC (no photos), GA, TN (no photos), KY, and back home, that included Durham Station, NC, where Johnston surrendered to Sherman; Fort Fisher, at the tip of NC; Camp Sumter in Andersonville, GA, the Confederate prison camp where 13,000 Northern soldiers died, including two of my ancestors; and several in between. This trip was supposed to be a camping trip, but because of the monsoons - it rained every night, including one when I did camp but dealt with a horrendous lightning storm and deluge - and that's when I learned that the ol' homestead leaked. The remainder of the trip included a lot of motels. Not much opportunity for hiking and sight-seeing.
