Mandalas
Seemingly originated by Tibetan monks as a basis for their ceremonial sand paintings, the term "mandala" now seems to apply to all round-shaped, kaleidoscopic-like imagery. The resulting design is quite fascinating to me, satisfying my analytical, mathematical side, as well as my artistic side. I like Carl Jung's definition: a mandala is a circular motif of perfect integration. Four separate Mandala variations can be derived from a corresponding Montage; the numerical designations indicate which one was used. The individual Mandala design is dependent on which of the four edges are flipped first.
